Hello,
a bit about me:
I hail from the tropical island of Penang, and I am an aspiring linguist. I obtained my M.A. and B.A. in Linguistics from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and I am currently a Linguistics Ph.D candidate at the University of Sydney, Australia.
As a multilingual who has grown up with the exposure of various contact languages, I am interested in contact languages and its' variations. Some of the languages I have investigated are Penang Hokkien, Singapore English and Malaysian English. My specific research interests are: language contact, language documentation, socio-phonetics, Southeast Asian languages and varieties of English.
Currently, I am venturing into the documentation of endangered languages, and I am excited to be able to carry out phonological investigations in some of these languages that have yet to be studied. I am also working in a fin-tech start up that looks at how language and technology can potentially disrupt the debt collection industry.
Beyond linguistics, I am looking to expand my portfolios in writing and in music as well. I hope my experiences outside of academia will help inform and shape my perspectives as an academician one day.
